Convert images, photos and graphics to 8-bit style Commodore 64 / CBM64 graphics in your browser. Choose between the original 16 original chip colors (read more about VIC-II 16-color palette) . Or extract from source image. Fine tune output with 4 dithering techniques, colour/saturation adjustment, contrast adjustment and more. Images are downscaled to real CBM64 resolutions: 160×200 (multicolor), 320×200 (hires/standard), or 80×50 (chunky). Supports jpg, png, gif or webp.
Dithering is used to create the illusion of more colors by mixing pixels of different colors in patterns (e.g., checkerboard), tricking the eye into seeing a blend. The Commodore 64 used dithering to overcome its strict graphical limitations , specifically its 16-color palette. For example by mixing light blue and white to create a brighter cyan or sky blue.
Designed for enthusiasts, developers, and pixel artists.
